Beyond Kansai collects as little personal information as I can get away with. Here is what it collects, why, and how to ask for it back.

Most travel sites assume you're a profile to harvest. Beyond Kansai is built the other way around — almost nothing is collected, almost nothing is stored. This page is the long version of that one sentence.

In one paragraph

Beyond Kansai uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not track individuals. The only personal data the site holds is what you voluntarily send by email or (in the future) submit through a newsletter form. That data is used only to reply to you or, with consent, to send the newsletter. You can ask for it to be deleted at any time.

What is collected

Automatically

  • Anonymous aggregate analytics — page views, country-level location, referring sites, device type. No IP storage. No individual profiles.
  • Standard server logs from the hosting provider (Cloudflare) for security and abuse prevention. Retained briefly, not used for analytics.

If you contact me

  • Your email address and whatever you write in the message.
  • Used only to reply. Not added to any list, not shared with anyone.

Newsletter (when launched)

  • Email address, with your explicit consent at sign-up.
  • Stored by the newsletter platform (Beehiiv, planned). You can unsubscribe at any time.

Why

Aggregate analytics tell me which pages are useful and which are dead. Personal data is only ever used for the purpose you sent it for — replying to your message, or delivering a newsletter you signed up for.

Cookies

Beyond Kansai does not use cookies for analytics or advertising. The site may set short-lived technical cookies (for example, to remember a theme preference if you change one). These are not used for tracking.

Affiliate platforms you click through to (Klook, Viator, Booking.com) will set their own cookies on their own domains. Their privacy policies apply once you leave Beyond Kansai.

Third parties

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages and uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. Cloudflare receives standard request data (your IP address, browser type) needed to serve the site, but Beyond Kansai does not receive or store this information for analytics purposes.

Affiliate links to Klook, Viator, Booking.com, and similar services pass through their respective platforms once clicked. Beyond Kansai does not receive your booking details — only an anonymous commission notification.

Your rights

If you've sent me an email or signed up for the newsletter, you have the right to:

  • Ask what data is held about you.
  • Request a copy of it.
  • Correct anything inaccurate.
  • Have it deleted.
  • Withdraw consent to the newsletter at any time.

Under the EU GDPR, the UK Data Protection Act, and the California CCPA, these rights are guaranteed. They also apply to anyone who emails me, GDPR territory or not.

Contact

For any data-related request, email hello@beyondkansai.com with the subject line "Data request". Responses within seven days.
